7Lee Gutteridge, a South African, has worked in the bush for over 25 years and is known as an expert in many natural fields. He is the owner of Nature Guide Training, an African field school for guides, and has authored nine natural history books to date, including a field guide to the Bushveld and Kruger Lowveld areas, entitled “The Bushveld.” Lee’s other published works include: a first edition of The Bushveld concentrating only on the Waterberg region of South Africa; and books on The Okavango, Bushman Rock Art, Mammal Tracks and Sign of Southern Africa, Invertebrate Tracks and Signs of Southern Africa, Bird Tracks and SIgns of SOuthern Africa, A Trackers Tale, and The Tracker Mentoring Manual. Lee is a FGASA (the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) “Scout” guide (the 7th of 10, in the world, at present); Scout is a very unique qualification, requiring the achievement of Senior Tracker in the CyberTracker system, a SKS (Special Knowledge and Skills) in Dangerous Game encounters, and a Level 3 Field Guiding qualification. Lee is also a FGASA SKS Wild Flower guide, a Specialist Paleoanthropological guide and holds a SKS Birding guide qualification for the savanna biome. All of the above qualifications represent the highest achievements that can be obtained in their respective organizations. Lee is a renowned trainer of trackers and guides in Africa, and has trained and assessed in South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Botswana, Zambia, Congo (DRC) and several other countries. He is well known for his depth-of-knowledge and infectious enthusiasm in conveying information about the natural world.

8Dr. Kersey Lawrence is a wildlife ecologist and an award-winning university-level teacher who spends half the year in Africa and the other half in the USA. Her Ph.D. focused on trackers and tracking in Southern Africa. She is the owner of Original Wisdom, an experiential education company where she develops and runs courses for students and groups in the United States and South Africa. Original Wisdom courses emphasize science through “hands-on” ecology sessions outdoors; technology through the use of photography, camera traps, GPS, and GIS; and human dimensions through cultural experiences with local communities. With well over two decades of survival, wilderness and tracking experience she is also a highly qualified tracker in her own right, within both the USA and South Africa. She is, in fact, amongst the most highly qualified trackers in the world in the CyberTracker System and is currently the first and only woman tracker in the world to earn a Senior Tracker qualification (since 2016), which required her to achieve a Track & Sign Specialist (2011, South Africa) and a Trailing Specialist qualification (2016, USA). Kersey is a Track & Sign Evaluator in Africa and has been assessing trackers since 2014. She also assesses Trailing in North America (since 2018). She is a qualified guide on the FGASA (the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) standard with many hours on foot and wildlife encounters under her belt. Kersey has worked for a part of each year in Africa since 2008, which is when her love affair with the African bush began.
